About Guillermo Olaizola
Born in Venezuela in 1953, Guillermo began his career as an electronics engineer, designing advanced telecommunication products and co-founding multiple companies, including one of Venezuela’s first internet service providers. By the early 1990s, he was advising on the privatization and restructuring of Venezuela’s telecommunications market, a milestone that spurred remarkable growth and modernization across the industry and economy.
In 2002, amidst political upheaval, Guillermo emigrated to the United States with his family, settling in Bethesda, where he acquired and managed a small cellular retail business which he sold before retiring in 2010.
Guillermo’s passion for photography began in the 1980s with film cameras, but digital technology transformed his creative journey. In 2010, he invested in professional-grade equipment and editing tools, immersing himself in the study of photography as an art form. His work spans a broad range of subjects, including landscapes, architecture, wildlife, travel and portraiture. Over time, his artistic vision has evolved toward a preference for minimalist images that embody elegance and simplicity, where a few carefully arranged elements create powerful emotions and unexpected visual impact.
For Guillermo, photography is a personal quest to explore and discover the world’s beauty. In his words: “While I am my own most important audience, I hope that my images inspire others and evoke the same sense of wonder and joy I feel when creating them.”
