2024 GALLERY MEMBERSHIP CALL

Multiple Exposures Gallery (MEG), located at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA, represents the work of fifteen photographers recognized for excellence in fine art photography. Founded in 1985, MEG is the longest continuously operating fine art photography gallery in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and acclaimed throughout the region. The gallery features rotating exhibitions of work by its represented artists, often in collaboration with independent, nationally-recognized jurors and curators. In anticipation of two openings for membership due to member relocations later this year, the gallery has issued a Call for New Members and invites local photographers interested in gallery membership to apply for consideration.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

MEG provides many meaningful opportunities for local fine art photographers who become members, including:

  •  The opportunity to exhibit your work on a regular basis, in both solo and group exhibitions

  • The opportunity for ongoing social media visibility via Instagram, Facebook and MEG’s website and promotion to local media

  • The opportunity to be a part of a community of other serious fine art photographers, continually exchanging ideas and growing both artistically and professionally

  • The opportunity to have your work on display and for sale 360 days a year

  • The opportunity to be part of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, which draws over 500,000 visitors a year and is home to 100+ professional artists who work, exhibit, and sell their art

APPLICATION PROCESS

The MEG membership application, review and selection process involves the following steps:

1) Attend a Membership Information Session

Attend a Membership Information Session at the gallery on Sunday, July 21 at 11:00am or Friday, August 9 at 7:00pm (NEW DATE!). The information session is optional, but we encourage attendance so we can provide you with helpful information about the gallery, membership responsibilities, and the portfolio you will be required to submit. RSVP for an Information Session here: Information Session RSVP. (Note: the content is the same for both sessions)

2) Notify MEG of Intent to Apply

If you plan to submit an application for membership consideration, please notify us of your intention to apply by sending an email to Sarah Salomon, MEG Membership Chair at info@multipleexposuresgallery.com by Sunday, September 8. Before making your decision to apply, we recommend you review the description of Member Responsibilities and Obligations to ensure your expectations are the same as those of the gallery.

3) Prepare Portfolio and Application Document

To be considered for membership at MEG, you must provide:

  • A representative photographic portfolio of your best work. Please use these Portfolio Submission Guidelines to assist in preparing your portfolio.

  • A completed MEG membership application, including a current resume and artist statement if available. Please download the application form here: Membership Application (download to complete)

4) Deliver Portfolio and Application to the Gallery

Place your completed application inside your portfolio box and deliver it to the gallery no later than October 7th at 5pm. The gallery is open daily 11am-5pm. Please note portfolios will not be accepted after the deadline.

5) Interview with MEG Members

Each applicant must schedule and meet in-person at the gallery with a minimum of three (3) and maximum of five (5) MEG members by Friday, November 1. After submitting your application, you will receive an email from Sarah Hood Salomon with the gallery staffing schedule and email addresses of MEG members and you will reach out directly to the individual members with whom you would like to meet to schedule interview times.

6) Pick Up Portfolio

Gallery members will meet in early November to conduct a formal review of each application and portfolio and after careful consideration determine if membership will be offered to any applicants. Results of this review process will be emailed to each applicant no later than November 5, 2024.
