Statement
The project "In the Fog" is focusing on the investigation of the pictorial aesthetic at the turn of the 19th century. I am consciously looking for nostalgic and poetic images, relying on an antique soft focus lens as a tool, which allows me to layer meaning. Landscapes obscured by fog are ideal spaces for symbolizing and re-experiencing this forgotten style. Through this aesthetic, I am trying to create a link between past and present, to examine the inner capacity of photography, and to record and hold time inside the visual image. This link allows viewers to rediscover the distance between contemporary photography practices and pictorial aesthetic. The landscape as depicted in my photographs evokes an emotional state that reveals an inner landscape, inviting contemplation of the allegorical, the mystical, and the ideal.
